SHOW #018 - NerdBoyTV Broadcast: February 2, 2008

NERDBOY NOTE: Hello everyone. NerdBoyTV has been down the last week or so because your host, Ryan Yee, has been battling a nasty cold. Started with a runny nose, then a cough, then a harder cough, then a loss of voice from all the coughing! It has not been a fun 10 days even though we were able to surf the net from our sickbed (hehehe). Unfortunately, I still don't have much of a voice to record a new broadcast, but time marches on. Here are some links to checkout, just no video intro...I promise I'll be back to normal this coming weekend. Have a good one and stay healthy!

In this episode, Ryan Yee, Host of NerdBoyTV, wants you to read about how Yahoo! is retreating from the subscription music service business and throwing its support behind our beloved Rhapsody (yay!), learn about how to tweak your PC if it's running slower, decide whether or not it's good to leave your laptop on all the time (does it ruin the battery?), read about whether or not it's legal to copy CDs and DVDs for personal use, and lastly read two articles about cellphones: 1) How people get stuck in cellphone jail, and 2) What your cellphone says about you and your style.

If Yahoo can’t do it . . . - Los Angeles Times: "In a move telegraphed months ago, Yahoo announced today that it was terminating its subscription music service and throwing its support behind Rhapsody, a competing service operated by RealNetworks and MTV Networks."

Live Informed: "Is your PC slower now than when you bought it? Do you get error messages when you try to un-install software? Do you have desktop icons that aren't working?"

Is It OK To Leave My Laptop Plugged In All the Time? : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech Is it safe to leave my laptop plugged in for extended periods of time when I am not using it? I am talking 10 or 12 hours at a time. Or should I only plug it in when it needs charging?

Reader Mail: Is it Legal to Copy CDs and DVDs? : Ben Patterson : Yahoo! Tech: "Most digital-rights activists (such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation), citing the 'fair use' exceptions to U.S. copyright law, argue that you should be able to rip copyrighted CDs and DVDs (ones you own, mind you) for your own personal use. Of course, whether you have the actual legal right to do so is another—and somewhat murky—issue, particularly when it comes to video."

Most Americans are in cell phone jail - Gotcha Capitalism- msnbc.com: "At any given time, most Americans are in cell phone jail. You know the feeling. You talk to a friend with a snazzy new handset that does amazing things. Or you see an advertisement for a great deal on a monthly plan. Then what do you do? You sigh, wistfully wishing you could shop for a new phone. If you are really on top of things, you call your provider and ask when your current cell phone contract expires. And then you wait."

What does your cell phone say about you? - DigiGirl- msnbc.com: "Whether it’s a BlackBerry, Treo, Sidekick or an iPhone (or one of many other varieties of smartphone), a device might give off some clues about the personalities that gravitate to it."
