Yahoo hopes to 'Shine' with advertisers on new Women's site - CNN.com: "Yahoo Inc. on Monday launched a site for women between ages 25 and 54, calling it a key demographic underserved by current Yahoo properties. Yahoo hopes their new site will allow them to cash in with advertisers who are targeting a key spending demographic. The site, Shine, is aimed largely at giving the struggling Internet company additional opportunities to sell advertising targeted to the key decision-maker in many households."

Adobe - Photoshop Express (beta): "You shot it — now do something to it. Make it pop. Make it impossible to ignore. Upload, sort, polish, and store up to 2GB of photos. All for free. Resize, tint, distort, and more — add your mark to all your images. Then show them off on Adobe Photoshop Express or your Facebook page."

YouTube stats revealed Webware : Cool Web apps for everyone: "YouTube has just announced the newest addition to its video service. It's called YouTube Insights and it allows content publishers, partners, and advertisers to see detailed statistical data for their videos. Metrics that the service provides include geographic viewing and relative popularity."

To disconnect or not to disconnect : Dory Devlin : Yahoo! Tech: "If you find yourself responding in the most Pavlovian way to the little beep that tells you you've got an email that you surely don't have to read at 3 p.m. on a Saturday, you'll be as impressed by the New York Times' Mark Bittman's commitment to disconnect from everything one day a week. That includes TV and his landline phone."

SHOW #030 - INTERNET FOCUS: Introducing Hulu.com

Ryan also takes you on a quick tour of Hulu.

Drowning in a digital sea of content - Gadgets- msnbc.com: "When Western Digital Corp., which makes storage devices, released its My DVR Expander last fall, videophiles and video files breathed a sigh of relief. The device takes away the onus of having to erase and make room on overburdened digital video recorders, such as TiVo and other brands, that faithfully fill up 80- to 250-gigabyte hard drives with television programming."

YouTube videos now in higher quality, hack not required : Gina Hughes : Yahoo! Tech: "Last week I told you about a 'hack' that would allow you to watch high-resolution videos on YouTube. Well, you can scratch that because YouTube has finally announced all users have the option of watching some videos in higher quality."

Guitar Hero hits handhelds for first time - Guitar Hero On Tour - Yahoo! Games: "With over 64 million Nintendo DS owners in the world and a monster music game franchise like Guitar Hero (over 14 million games sold in the U.S.), it's no wonder Activision is giving living room rockers a chance to take their show on the road. Available this summer, Guitar Hero: On Tour brings the series' fret-burning fun exclusively to Nintendo portable game system."

Hulu: All-you-can-eat TV shows, movies - and ads : Ben Patterson : Yahoo! Tech: "After several months in private beta, Hulu-a portal to hundreds of free, streaming TV shows and scores of movies-is finally open to the public. But while you can watch and even embed clips from shows to your heart's content, you'll have to deal with ads aplenty."

SHOW #026 - NerdBoyTV Broadcast: March 22, 2008 (Saturday)

In this episode of NerdBoyTV, Ryan Yee kicks off "7 broadcasts in 7 days" in celebration of Spring Break. Everyday for the next seven days, NerdBoyTV will have articles, videos, and product reviews to share Saturday through Friday ;-) Today's articles include accessorizing your laptop, Apple's use of its iTunes Store to rollout its popular Safari browser to its PC users, Docsyncer helping people to convert their Office documents into Google Docs and Google Aps, SlideRocket adding "WOW" to your PowerPoint presentations, and the decline of consumer spending on electronics during this current recession.

Accessorizing Your Laptop by dummies.com: Yahoo! Tech: "One thing that's kept the computer industry alive for years and years is that the computer purchase never stops with the computer itself. First comes software. Then follows more hardware and even more hardware. Peripherals! Gizmos! Gadgets! And then you can get fun accessories like mouse pads and tchotchkes to sit atop the monitor. The computer is endlessly expandable."

Apple Uses iTunes to Put Fast Safari on Windows PCs - Yahoo! News: "Windows users perfectly happy with their Firefox or Internet Explorer browsers have been surprised to find a new Web browser on their hard drives -- Apple's Safari 3.1. The browser was originally only for Apple's Macintosh computer. The new browser arrived via Apple's software update feature, which is included in its iTunes software. iTunes boasts impressive penetration on Windows as well as Mac computers. Apple normally uses software update to deliver updates of the QuickTime media player, iPod software and iTunes."

DocSyncer helps wean users from Microsoft Office Webware : Cool Web apps for everyone: "In my preview of the Under the Radar conference I questioned the business viability of the document management product DocSyncer, which, among other things, takes users' Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and synchronizes them into a Google Docs or Google Apps account."

SlideRocket puts the 'wow' into online presentations Webware : Cool Web apps for everyone: "Flashy presentation tool SlideRocket is easily one of the best-looking services I've seen. CEO Mitch Grasso's presentation at this afternoon's Under the Radar session about the virtual worker (using SlideRocket to present) got several oohs and ahhs. In many ways it takes a cue from Apple's Keynote product with great use of fonts, reflections, transparencies, and transitions to put together presentations that use hardware acceleration and cutting-edge design templates to impress clients, co-workers, and potentially your boss."

Huge Decline in Us Consumer Electronics Spending: "The latest consumer spending survey from ChangeWave Research shows a sudden huge pullback in U.S. consumer retail spending on electronics - the largest decline since 2002. The survey of 4,427 consumers, conducted February 18-25, looked at discretionary spending on a range of popular electronic devices, including video game consoles, digital cameras and iPods."

SHOW #025 - NerdBoyTV Broadcast: March 16, 2008 (Extra Edition)

In this extra weekend edition of NerdBoyTV, Ryan Yee talks about the No. 1 BLUNDER of all-times in the music industry (it use to be the guy who passed on The Beatles...guess what it is NOW?) and how the Playstation 2 (NOT PS3, XBox, or Wii) is burning up the cash registers now that we're officially in a recession!

Biggest Record Company Screw-Ups of All Time on Yahoo! Music: "The talent scout who turned down the Beatles has long been credited with committing the music industry's biggest gaffe.

But Dick Rowe's billion-dollar boo-boo has been beaten to the top spot on Blender magazine's list of the '20 biggest record company screw-ups of all time' by the failure of record companies to capitalize on the Internet.

The major labels took top dishonors for driving file-sharing service Napster out of business in 2001, instead of figuring out a way to make money from its tens of millions of users. The downloaders merely scattered to hundreds of other sites, and the industry has been in a tailspin ever since.

'The labels' campaign to stop their music from being acquired for free across the Internet has been like trying to cork a hurricane -- upward of a billion files are swapped every month on peer-to-peer networks,' Blender said in the report, which appears in its newly published April issue."

Price is Right for Playstation 2 - Video Game Feature - Yahoo! Video Games: "Wave goodbye to the Wii, pass on the PS3 and pull a 180 on the 360 - if you're looking for a way to play great games without breaking the bank, you're looking for the Playstation 2. We know it sounds crazy, but provided you're not overly concerned with cutting-edge graphics and online gaming, Sony's last-generation console still offers plenty of gaming thrills at a fraction of the cost of the newer systems."

SHOW #024 - NerdBoyTV Broadcast: March 15, 2008

How to Change the World: "Today we are opening Alltop, a news aggregation site that provides “all the top” stories for forty of the most popular topics on the Web. The headlines and first paragraph of the five most recent stories from forty to eighty sources for each topic are displayed. Alltop stories are refreshed approximately every ten minutes."

TV set-top battle: Apple TV vs. Vudu : Ben Patterson : Yahoo! Tech: "Apple breathed new life into its once-floundering Apple TV thanks to a recent software update, but it's got a major competitor to deal with: Vudu, a set-top device with more than eight times as many movies to rent. Which box deserves a place next to your TV?"

Spring cleaning for gadgets : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech: "In addition to doing those other things you ought to take care of twice a year (like changing your toothbrush and replacing your furnace air filter), spring is a good time to clean your gadgets and computers to ensure they keep running well and looking good. It doesn't have to take hours and hours. Here are some tips for cleaning your gear efficiently."

Microsoft’s waiting game may get it Yahoo - U.S. business- msnbc.com: "Microsoft’s unfriendly, slow-motion effort to take over Yahoo may ironically be riskiest for the pioneering Internet company."

Peer-to-peer networks go legit - Yahoo! News: "The technology best known for pirating movies, music and software online is increasingly being adopted by businesses as a cheap way to get video content to customers. A number of startups are embracing so-called peer-to-peer technology and have convinced some big-name media companies to use them to deliver legal content."

Eight Great Gadget Deals - Reviews by PC Magazine: "Seems like two hundred bucks doesn't get you much these days: Dinner for two in a swanky restaurant, a tank or two of gas for your Range Rover, a Hannah Montana concert ticket (maybe not, actually). There are better ways to spend your hard-earned cash. Why not pick up a fun new tech toy? We've reviewed some pretty impressive, budget-friendly gadgets lately--everything you see here has earned a rating of at least 3 stars (out of 5). So check out our favorite cheapskate gadgets of late."

Is User-Generated Content Out? Newsweek Technology Newsweek.com: "The individual user has been king on the Internet, but the pendulum seems to be swinging back toward edited information vetted by professionals."

Expected MySpace service to compete with iTunes - Yahoo! News: "Amid ongoing competitive pressure from Facebook, MySpace is taking its latest shot at entering the music business as other social networking peers, such as Last.fm and imeem, are making big audience gains with ad-supported music offerings."

Wear your tech gear, don't schelp it - DigiGirl- msnbc.com: "One of the first companies to design apparel to accommodate tech gadgets was the SCOTTeVEST/SeV gear management clothing company (http://www.scottevest.com). Scott Jordan, a former attorney who used to commute weekly to and from Chicago and New Jersey, came up with the idea to create clothing to hold all the different devices needed by travelers, commuters and active people who want their technology close by all the time."

Tech Products We'd Be Lost Without - Reviews by PC Magazine: "A survey of PC Magazine editors to determine the products they'd least like to be parted from revealed some obvious—and several unusual—choices."

Computer Slowing Down What to Do About It: "Is your computer getting bogged down? Does it often hang on the hour glass for several minutes at a time? If so, your computer is likely experiencing problems with its registry database, the operating system component that stores information about the system, application settings and hardware."
